Home post #1: the master bedroom

Last time I practically promised to start a new series of posts and show you a few snaps of our master bedroom. I have chosen seven photographs, to be specific, and I hope you like my picks. So, first of all you can see the glass decorations on the window-sill (those sea shells originate from Crete island wherefrom I and E. collected them together in 2009), also some of my clothes (sidenote: I have a separate dressing room in addition to the bedroom dresser). Inside our bedroom closet mainly are my blouses, cardigans, jeans, knitwear, shirts, short and long sleeved tops, skirts, sleepwear, sportswear, vests, also belts, leggings, socks, tights and of course E's clothes as well.

Next there are my dressing table and the chair which is many many many (and so on...) decades old but my granddad restored this chair for me and even added some soft black fur. You probably already know how much I adore timeless vintage pieces with some attitude and therefore our bedroom furniture is antique. You can also get a clue of what's on my generously stuffed dressing table (accessories and fragrances only!). If you want me to, I can show my other beauty related goodies some other time, simply let me know! :) However, some of my Clinique products are already displayed on the natural wooden shelf once again made by my grandfather.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure we will overhaul our master bedroom in time but the beautiful furnishing will certainly remain the same. So, like I mentioned before, definitely let me know what your opinion and thoughts are because this only means more motivation for me.

ps. The last four photos were taken outside our house on a sunny winter morning. Enjoy! :)

Red, white & black

Quite a few weeks ago (probably the week before last) I and E. took a trip to one of our favourite destinations in Estonia - Tartu. The main reason was the fact we had to buy a big bucket of white paint, also putty and so forth. Yeah, you can only guess what plans we have...
Once again another room is going to be overhauled, yay, and it's the grandest one in our house, so quite a challenge but I'm sure we can do it!
By the way, last weekend I took some photographs of our master bedroom and will post those in time. In all probability there will be a series of posts about our home but we'll see how it actually works out.

Anyhow, of course we (or actually I) did some more shopping in Tartu (the sales, you know) and I got a few new goodies. For an example Marc Jacobs "Daisy" Eau de Toilette Purse Spray with Refill. The Daisy Purse Spray is great for travel. The bottle is topped with a single vinyl petal that bends to the touch. Set includes Daisy Purse Spray bottle with refill and golden funnel. Notes: grapefruit, violet leaves, strawberry, gardenia, jasmine, violet, wood, musk, vanilla. Obviously I fell in love with Daisy and simply had to have it right away (so typical).

Additionally I got cute undergarments and dotted fleece sleepwear with a hood (it's cushy and warm and even my mom loved it), also three books (I have already bought five books this month... this is something new!). By the way, one of those books is about our next travel destination and I'm so excited about it!

And now on a completely different note: the last photo of this post presents some of our yummy meals: salmon with lemon, rice and fresh salad, gingerbread waffles, strawberry champagne and protein pancakes with banana.

All in all I hope you like my photos and of course be sure to tell me what you think :)

I was wearing: blazer - Tazzia /thrifted/; blouse - Martinelli /thrifted/; leggings - Guess; boots - Sempre; bag - Armani Jeans; earrings - from an Estonian supermarket; hair accessory - unknown.

Glambox: jaanuar

The first part of this post will be in Estonian since it's my little review about the most recent beauty creation in Estonia - Glambox. But you, my lovely foreign readers, can still browse the photos and then proceed to the second part.

1. Glambox näeb superarmas välja: hariliku pruuni pappkarbikese ja erkroosa siidpaberi-sidumislindi kombinatsioon on vägagi efektne ja pilkupüüdev;
2. Mulle meeldivad üllatuskingitused ja see moment, kui avad karpi, mille sisu ette ei tea;
3. Loomulikult meeldib mulle ka erinevate (ilu)toodete proovimine ja miks mitte uute lemmikute avastamine.

Nüüd aga veidi lähemalt minule saadetud toodetest:
1. RICH Pure Luxury Intense Moisture Shampoo - olen RICH'i juuksetooteid alati proovida soovinud ja nüüd siis avaneski võimalus, mille realiseerin siiski tõenäoliselt alles kevadel, kui reisile lähen (ideaalne suurus kohvrisse pakkimiseks!);
2. BodyFarm Body Milk Sandalwood - BodyFarmist kirjutasin põgusalt ühes oma 12.7.11 kuupäeva kandvas blogipostituses. Kreeka päritolu ilutooted on mulle juba päris mitu aastat meeldinud;
3. GLOMINERALS gloPressed Base (in honey light) - ma pole kunagi midagi sellist proovinud, aga eks iga asja jaoks tuleb millalgi esimene kord, ja pealegi tundub mulle saadetud meekarva toon vägagi sobilik;
4. SPARITUAL Instinctual Moisturizing Lotion - esimese asjana jäi silma selle päritolumaa USA;
5. Lirene Intensively Moisturizing Cream - tean, et tegemist on päevakreemiga, aga kandsin selle näole hoopis ööseks, kuna päeval ma näokreeme üldjuhul ei kasuta. Minu eksperiment seisnes selles, et tahtsin näha, kas kõnealune kreem suudab pehmendada mu tol hetkel külmast ja lumest tingituna veidi karedaid põsesarnaid. Ja tõepoolest, karedus väheneski märgatavalt (varemalt olin proovinud teisi kreeme, aga need ei töötanud). Igatahes, kavatsen Lirene kreemi lõpuni kasutada, kuna ka selle imendumine on väga kiire. Vaid lõhn on veidi vanamoodne, aga pole hullu;
6. Laurence Dumont BIO Chocolat Epilation Bandes - need šokolaadiparfüümiga vaharibad jalgadele ja kehale kavatsen täna ära proovida. Nägin neid muide Glamboxi ära tuues kohalikus kaubahallis ja juba ainuüksi see pakk on tõesti kallim kui terve Glambox.
Edit: minu esmamulje - selgelt liiga kleepuvad ja halvasti eemalduvad, aga ilmselt annan sellele tootele veel ühe võimaluse, kuigi vahatamine pole absoluutselt minu teema.

Ja veel, kuna minu pakki unustati esimesel korral Geisha kaasa panna, lubati järgmise Glamboxiga topeltkogus magusat saata.
Ootan juba suure huviga veebruari Glamboxi ja olen tegelikult väga rahul, et Eestis selline mõnus ilutoodetekogumik lõpuks saadaval on.

Now, in the second part of today's post I'm going to show you my hometown thrifted finds from yesterday. For 2,50.- euros I got two books ("Losing You" by Nicci French and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson) and three CD-s ("Parallel Lines" by Blondie and "Christmas Peace" and "Love Songs" by Elvis). I'm more than pleased with my purchases and would actually love to know if you, my readers, have read "Losing You" or "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"? What is your opinion about those two books?
Anyhow, I hope you all enjoyed the photos and be sure to let me know what you think.

ps. As you can see, my little snowy Elvis also greets you!

11 questions tag

Hey, Lovelies! I've been tagged by dear Emmanuella, who runs one of my favourite blogs. So, here come the rules:
- Post these rules.
- You must post 11 random things about yourself.
- Answer the questions the tagger set for you in her/his post.
- Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
- Go to their blogs and tell them that you've tagged them.
- You have to tag 11 bloggers (however, I chose seven).

11 random things about myself:

1. I have lived in at least five different places, in two different Estonian towns.
2. I have had two official jobs and I started working in 2008, when I graduated from the University of Tartu and received my Bachelor of Science degree.
3. My specialty was environmental technology.
4. My birthday is on June 14th, which is Mourning and Commemoration Day in Estonia.
5. My first tattoo was a treble chef (approximately 4,5x2 cm).
6. I have travelled to Greece, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Russia and Sweden so far, but am working on the 7th one right now (actually I and E. have already picked our next destination, yay!).
7. I love sauna and sweating in steam (and luckily I have my own sauna too).
8. I have had three cars: Toyota Camry, Chrysler Stratus and Saab 9-3 (which I own right now).
9. I got my driver's licence in 2006.
10. I have had a hamster, a guinea pig and a rabbit. Now I dislike rodents.
11. My favourite animal is our mongrel Elvis.

Answers to Emmanuella's questions:

1. What do you like the most about your life?
I like the fact I don't depend on other people. Independence is the best feeling.

2. Do you wear makeup every day?
Fortunately not (for an example look at the photo above). When it comes to makeup, my motto is - less is more!

3. What's your motto in life?
Live right here, right now. Always respect and love yourself.

4. If you could change 4 things in the world what will you choose?
Firstly I would liquidate all wars and all criminals. Secondly I would lengthen workers' (like me) vacations and certainly call politicians to order.

5. What does your url mean?
My url maikeniblogi.blogspot.com is in Estonian and means simply Maiken's blog in English.

6. Do you have a collection of anything?
Directly not, but I do own heaps of bags, clothes, jewellery, shoes... and photos too!

7. Can you give some of your nicknames?
Luckily I don't have any.

8. Love or lust?
It depends. Sometimes one, sometimes another.

9. Who's the person you trust the most on this earth?
First and foremost myself, but also my boyfriend E. and my grandmother.

10. What's the most important for you?
My home, my family, complacency.

11. Have you ever been in love?
Of course I have, several times.

And last but not least - my questions to the people I'm going to tag:

1. How superstitious are you?
2. If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
3. If you had one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
4. Name two of your favourite songs!
5. What is the best thing that has ever happened to you?
6. What is the most embarrassing moment of your life?
7. What is the one food that you would never give up?
8. What's your favourite horror movie?
9. What is your one achievement that makes you the most proud?
10. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
11. Why did you start blogging?

And the seven people I tag:
Alexandra, Bree, Hayley, Kasia, Kayleigh Jean, Norah, Usagi-Chan.

I think it was the most complicated post I have ever made... Anyway, I truly hope at least some of you (the 7 girls) find the time to complete the tag. Obviously I'm waiting with great interest!
By the way, all the photos originate from the 1st of January and my timeline is clearly tangled.
But as always, I hope you like the photos, and be sure to tell me what you think!

Hostel: Part III (2011)

Do you feel lucky?
This is the third film in the Hostel trilogy and it's going straight to DVD (although in my opinion Hostel: Part III is honestly much more thrilling than for an example monotonous and kind of dull "Saw" films).
The director of the film is Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (video) - 1999) and it's starring Thomas Kretschmann (Valkyrie - 2008), Kip Pardue (ER (TV series) - 2006-2007), John Hensley (Nip/Tuck (TV series) - 2003-2010), Sarah Habel (American Virgin - 2009), Skyler Stone (Bones (TV series) - 2011) and so on. I recognized two of them: Thomas Kretschmann, and John Hensley, who played my favourite and the cutest Nip/Tuck character Matt McNamara.

Now, synopsis: High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in the third chapter of the terrifying Hostel series.
While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are lured by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip. Once there, they are horrified to find themselves the subjects of a perverse game of torture, where members of the Elite Hunting Club are hosting the most sadistic show in town.

Although the film contains strong bloody sadistic violence and torture, sexuality/nudity and pervasive language and I was quite grossed out by the rotten Elite Hunting Club, I (and my boyfriend) did really enjoy the movie because it was everything but monotonous. It was exciting, surprising and sinister - in my eyes really a perfect horror film. Nevertheless I totally disliked some of the leading characters: Mike (played by Skyler Stone) and Carter (played by Kip Pardue), and also the fact how fool and horny almost all men are.
Anyway, if you're a fan of horror films, then you should take the time to watch it for sure since it has all the necessary ingredients. Oh, and the film ended with a brilliant punch-line! 9/10

Window shopping's overrated, if I see it, I'ma take it

For a start I wanted to expose some of my newest goodies - fortunately bought mostly during sales.
From those four beauty products above I have so far used only Nivea Long Repair 1-minute treatment which in my opinion is quite efficient and at the same time totally affordable. Though, I did a little research and found out that in many countries the product is not available for some reason. Anyway, I've combined my 1-minute treatment together with Goldwell dualsenses Rich Repair shampoo and also with The Body Shop Ice Blue shampoo. Both combinations worked surprisingly well, and afterwards (i.e. after combing) I added La Coupe shine & smooth sleek serum. The outcome - shiny, smooth, glossy hair.

Now I'm thinking I should maybe try the shampoo and the conditioner of the same name, some day in the future of course. And if you are interested in any of those other three products, then let me know as well. By the way, I found this Johnson Parker crisp apple exfoliating body scrub from mydollarstore in Rakvere, sniffed it and fell in love.

Anyhow, the jewellery is from Seppälä (deer necklace - 3,13.- euros, and three pairs of wing shaped earrings - 2,68.- euros), the two gorgeous dresses are from New Yorker (the pink one - 6,95.- euros and the black and green one - 4,95.- euros, both were originally 24,95.- euros, so I saved 38.- euros) and the sweater with cute doggie print is from Reserved (9,99.- euros). Don't you just love the sales? I know I do!

Now, better late than never, so my outfit originates from the 31st of December when I and E. visited Rakvere. Since I loved the atmosphere and hazy surroundings, we simply had to capture it and I'm glad we did.

I was wearing: sweater - /thrifted/ 1.- euro; imitation leather skirt - Morgan de Toi /thrifted/ 1,60.- euros;  wedges - Pearlz; tights, earrings - unknown; watch - Hello Kitty /a gift from E/.

I would also like to thank you, my lovely followers and readers, for all the absolutely great and thoughtful comments and feedback. This means the world to me! And last but not least I hope you enjoy the photos, and always be sure to tell me your opinion :)

ps. Since several of you asked about my dream travel destination(s) for this year, I thought I'd answer it here. In fact I don't have the one and only dream destination but we (I) have considered Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Greece (once again)... All in all we'll see about that when the right time comes.

You also asked about the delicious cake (with grated bread and biscuit btw) which I unfortunately didn't make. But my mom did, and I'm very curious to give it a try. Edit: I have the recipe now!
